Best Baits / Tips:
Longreed fish are mainly taken on good quality freezer or home made baits. Fishy and fruit combos work well. On both lakes, short sessions with well presented rigs and bait are often more effective, than long stays.
Waggler and pole fishing to the margins, lillies & the islands are the favourite methods on Ashreed. Top baits are sweetcorn, worm, luncheon meat and caster.
Getting There:
The fishery is located in Laughton, Nr. Lewes, East Sussex.
Whats on Offer:
Located on the outskirts of Lewes, Longreed Lakes provides first class fishing in the tranquil and secluded Sussex countryside. Professionally designed and managed Longreed Lakes comprises two feature packed waters – ‘Ashreed’ and ‘Longreed’. Both lakes are well established and sympathetically pegged to prevent crowded over-fishing. The waters hold an abundance of natural food, which lead to consistent growth rates and immaculate fish.
All swims are generously sized and topped with wood chip to keep the fishing area free from mud. At Longreed Lakes you are always guaranteed a swim, as fishing is by prior arrangement only.
Longreed Lake:
There are three islands, numerous lily beds and substantial island and marginal reed growth. Depths reach seven feet in the troughs and holes but average four to five feet elsewhere. As well as these obvious features there are numerous others, such as silt beds, clay bars and plateaus.
The fishery record Mirror of 25lb 12oz was caught in May 2005 and Common 25lb 8oz in May 2006. The average weight for the water (July 2006) stands at 18lbs 2oz.
Longreed is not a runs water, but the quality of fish and beautiful surroundings more than compensate.
Ashreed Lake:
Ashreed is a one acre mixed coarse lake with ten swims. There are two islands, one located centrally and the other being at the far end, (this island has subsided and is in the process of being re-structured).
Depths range from two feet in the shallow reed fringed bays, to six feet in the central channel. As with longreed there are numerous lily beds, and well established margins.
