Newent Community School Wins Schools National Championship at Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery

Newent Community School from Newent, Gloucestershire won the Angling Trust Schools National Championship at Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery, Retford on 16th July 2014 with 72 points. The team consisted of; Matt Anderson, George Organ, Tom Cleverley, Jack Cleverley and Harvey Shayle.

Angling TrustIn silver medal position saw newcomers, Campsmount Academy from Barnsley take second place in the team category with 66 points.  The team were;  Dean Lambie, Jack Waugh, Joshua Butler, Oliver Kerry and Charlie Hemingbrough.  In third place with 60 points were Minsthorpe Community College Red, they were; Daniel Bryan, Logan Jones, Jessica Reed, Jake McAllister-Birch and Ellyse Dixon.

Newent Community School were back in the medals with the top individual classification going to Matt Anderson with an outstanding weight of 17.040 kg from Bridge Outer C14.  In second place from Outwood Academy Valley Purple was Ben Storey with another good weight recorded of 16.880 kg from Moat Outer A5.  In third position was Mathew Forres-Donelly from Dinnington Comprehensive ‘A’ from Canal Pool E2 with 10.920 kg.

The Under 14s winner on the day was Dean Lambie from Campsmount Academy with 10.160 kg, and the Geoff Woodcock Memorial trophy presented to the highest placed girl in the competition was Jessica Reed with 3.920 kg from Minsthorpe Community College Red.

The 80 competitors fished in very difficult conditions with temperatures reaching 25 degrees with bright sunshine throughout the day, but despite this some very good catches were being recorded for a lot of the competitors and everyone enjoyed the event.

The Angling Trust would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to Stephen McCaveny and Daiwa for their continued support and generous sponsorship of prizes for the event.  Daiwa also provided their Consultant, Sandra Scotthorne who awarded all the prizes to the competitors.  Appreciation also goes to Julie Abbot, England Ladies Coarse Team who helped out on the day, and to Terry, Luke and Nick Sears and all the staff at Daiwa Hallcroft Fisheries for the use of their water and all their help on the day.

5th – Audensahw School – 47 points
6th Minsthorpe Community College Green – 45 points
