Here is the latest fishing report for Nineoaks Fishery near Aberaeron, Ceredigion in West-Wales.

Trout Fishing:-

During very sunny days of this dry May, Trout have only been landed during the last hour of each day, as the shadows grew longer and the temperature dropped. On overcast days with light breezes the Trout have been coming out at all times of the day. From the middle of the Month many have been caught on tiny black dry flies.

The best wet flies have been the black and green Viva or Montana fished on a slow retrieve close to the bottom with Goldhead Damsels, Fritzes in various colours, the Cats Whisker or Hares Ear. all producing fish. Most Trout have regularly been around the 2lb to 2.5lb mark with very few below this size. During the middle of the month many Trout have begun to be caught on small black dry flies during the afternoons and evenings. The surface of the lakes have been smothered in small flies, gnats and so on.

Coarse Fishing:-
Many Carp are caught on sweetcorn or luncheon meat and in the early mornings and afternoons through to the evening are awesome when fishing using floating baits such as chum mixer pellets, Purina beef circles and similar dog food fished either as pre-soaked baits or fished dry with a bait band. Most Carp have been around the 4, 5 and 6lb range with many in to double figures. Some anglers have had 20 or more fish especially during an afternoon. Last month we reported many good sized 6oz+ Roach being caught in all our lakes and this month is even better with lots of quality Roach being caught , again on sweetcorn or luncheon meat, small boilies, paste and cat food. The best so far has been a 1.5lb Roach from the House pool by Mr. Lee Whitfield, of Widnes, using cat food. While the Novices has produced many skimmer Bream and a near 1lb Roach plus some good 4 and 5lb Carp. Mrs. Maureen Worrall, of Bridgewater, Somerset, amongst her many other good fish had a memorable 1lb Roach from the Main Lake, caught on sweetcorn plus many 5lb Commons and Mirror Carp. There are so many 1/2lb+ Roach being caught that in the next year or two Roach Fishing should be awesome and amongst the best anywhere in the land!

Three regulars Peter, Martin and James, from the Penrhiwgaled Arms, New Quay, recently fishing floating dog biscuits had many good carp about 8" out from the bank; including an 8lb Ghost Mirror, 10lb+ mirrors with the best an 11.5lb Mirror and several 10lb commons, while James' best was a 12lb common.

The young family of Sam & James Wilson from Aberystwyth on their first ever trip to Nineoaks' fishing sweetcorn or luncheon meat who had a great day catching Roach and some lovely mid-sized carp in the Main Lake. Amongst their many fish caught, Little Elen had a 2lb Carp while James' best was a 6lb common and their friend Chris Pugh's best weighed in at 11lb with Mum Sam having her first ever carp too. Not bad for a family day out!
