This is an excellent DVD for anyone considering tackling pike fishing on a large water like Lough Derg. Rick goes to great length to explain and demonstrate the techniques he uses including jerk baiting and trolling. He demonstrates the knots he uses, the tackle he uses and how to put these into practice. For those unfamiliar with pike fishing and the techniques involved in catching pike, this is really useful information. Many fishing DVD's concentrate too heavily on action shots of the fish being caught, often ignoring completely the techniques involved in catching them.
The 6 bonus scenes further elaborate on the techniques and tackle involved in catching pike and are well worth a watch.
As someone who has done little pike fishing, I found the advice and technical tips invaluable and I can't wait to try them out.
Don't worry though, the DVD is not just about the techniques involved in catching pike but there is plenty of action with Rick landing fish after fish from this stunning venue in Ireland. His passion for this sometimes elusive and quite delicate predator is evident throughout the DVD, with great care taken when handling the pike, with everyone being returned to the water as quickly as possible with a minimum of fuss.
In summary, Pike Fishing on Lough Derg is a great watch, striking just the right balance between technical information about how to catch pike on waters like Lough Derg and some great action of this hard fighting predator being caught in stunning surroundings. An excellent DVD that has definitely wetted my appetite for some pike fishing in the not too distant future.
