2011 International Fundraising 'Go Fishing with a Star'
A DAY’S FISHING FOR 2 PEOPLE WITH AN INTERNATIONAL OR TOP ANGLER - This is a unique opportunity to spend a day fishing with an angler of your choice and it’s not just for you but it is for two people.
Commencing on 1st July 2011 you can bid on Ebay for you and a friend, or a family member to fish with and ask as many questions as you like of your chosen angler.
The day will also include, meeting your coach, having breakfast (if available on site) talking about and discussing the venue, signing autographs, taking photographs, and discussing tackle etc.
Over the next few weeks the Angling Trust have secured a promise from 12 of the best anglers in England to spend a day with Ebay winners to help fund three of our International coarse angling teams. The Ladies, Veterans and Anglers with Disabilities teams have been unable to find a sponsor this year, and have had to contribute themselves or to raise funds elsewhere.
All the proceeds from these auctions will go towards helping support these teams as they go for gold in the World Angling Games in Italy from 28th August – 4th September 2011.
Four top anglers will be offered each time coming from different parts of the country. Each Star angler will stipulate a venue and the highest bidder will then be contacted to make arrangements and mutually decide on a date for the outing to take place.
The auction will be in three separate stages with the first of these auctions taking place starting on 1st July followed by 15th July and finally 29th July.
The first Ebay auction will start with;
- Tom Pickering fishing at Lindholme
- Steve Gardener fishing at Willinghurst or Sumners
- Stu Conroy fishing at Brookside
- Des Shipp fishing at Ivy House Lakes Near Swindon
Further details of star anglers being offered for the next auctions will be published on the Angling Trust website and other media publications shortly.

Nathan Watson wins Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Woodlands Lakes, Thirsk
Woodlands Lakes, Thirsk can always be guaranteed to come up with close finishes and this year was no exception with just 12oz being the margin between first and second place. It fell to Nathan Watson last year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania Champion of Champion’s winner to take the honours from peg 20 on Partridge lake at the 15th Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on Saturday 25th June 2011. Nathan took full advantage of his end peg to give him a winning weight of 118lb 9oz of carp up to 10lb, which was taken by continually moving between the method, long pole shallow, down the margins and pellet waggler to give him his match winning weight.
It was all go on the morning for Nathan as his return holiday flight was delayed by four hours which meant he only made it from the airport to the draw with just minutes to spare.
Nathan said after the match “It was great to qualify yet again and I hope I can take the title to add to my previous win as well as my Champion of Champion’s win of last year.”
The conditions on the day were warm and light wind and expectations were high for the 130 anglers that made their way to Woodlands Lakes for the penultimate round of this year’s Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifying match. With the likes of two time’s Fish ‘O’ Mania Champion Matt Hall and a whole host of former winners such as Steve Ringer, Steve Cooke, Nathan Watson, Marc Jones, and Geoff Ringer, and many more well known names were all vying for one of the last two places in this year’s grand final.
Narrowly pushed into second place was Paul McIntyre from Leeds from peg 16 on Skylark who fished corn over a bed of ground bait. He took carp up to 10lb to finish with 117lb 13oz. Third place fell to Steve Ringer pegged directly opposite Nathan on Partridge 17, he fished banded pellet shallow on long pole to finish with 17 carp for 110lb 6oz. Steve said after the match the only thing he was short of was “that one extra big fish”. To keep it in the family Steve’s dad Geoff who fished peg 19 on Skylark had a very slow match, until everything turned round in the last hour with him putting 80lb of carp in his net in the last hour to give him a final weight of 90lb 12oz, to give him the fourth spot. In fifth place was Steve Forster from peg 5 on Partridge with a weight of 89lb 6oz.

2011 Korda British Young Carpers’ Angling Championship: 8th-14th August
The 2011 Korda British Young Carpers’ Angling Championship will once again be taking place on the renowned Oxford Linear Fisheries complex in Oxford, but 2011 will see the event move onto Brasenose Two.
This fantastic event, organised by Angling Publications, the publishers of Crafty Carper monthly carp-fishing magazine, which is now in its eighth year, will commence on Monday 8th August until Sunday 14th August 2011 with a series of four day-only eliminators, which will see in excess of 130 junior anglers battle it out for a place in the 48-hour final.
Junior Fishing Competition Eliminators bycac 2011
Approximately 35 anglers will be entered into each of the four day-only eliminators taking place on Monday 8th August, Tuesday 9th August, Wednesday 10th August and Thursday 11th August. The top eight anglers who catch the highest weight of fish from each eliminator will qualify into the 48-hour final, which begins on Friday 12th August from 12 noon through until 12 midnight on Sunday 14th August.
The 2010 British Young Carpers’ Angling Championship
Jake Taylor Takes The Title!
What an end to the 2010 BYCAC event with Jake Taylor taking the event lead once again with less than two hours of the match remaining. Calum Kletta was still catching but Jake Taylor was catching more frequently, although he was still losing fish. 3rd placed Mark Palmer’s swim seemed to die and his chance to stay in contention was slowly fading away, The pressure was really getting to all the lads – the combination of sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion and stress was reaching a climax in the closing stages and the tension was almost unbearable.
With less than an hour of the event remaining some daylight was opening up between Taylor and Kletta but disaster struck for Taylor when he lost decent sized carp that wiped out his other line. Kletta then promptly landed a carp weighing 10lb 13oz and Jake was furious with himself. He pulled himself together, continued spodding and managed to hook another carp moments before the event ending hooter sounded. Jake knew he was still in the lead by the narrowest of margins and jumped with joy straight into the lake – incidentally the fish he’d hooked fell off, but he didn’t care, he’d done it! Calum Kletta was devastated that Jake had beaten him by only 27lb and his family could do little to console him. Congratulations to all the competitors for what was an amazing final and a brilliant week for everyone involved.

Etang De Planchon, France | Week 13 catch report
Etang de Planchon is a friendly carp fishing destination within the Haute Vienne region of France, near the lovely market town of Chateauponsac which has bars, restaurants and shops and is 30 minutes away from Limoges Airport. Here is their latest catch report.
Week 13 saw the arrival of Ross Clarke from Lincolnshire for a week & also a French angler (Johan Bonnefond) for 2 nights
Ross arrived with his wife Carrie and didn’t fish hard for the whole week, taking time out to spend with Carrie over the week. As Ross had the lake to himself he decided on moving around, he started in Kestrel, moved to Falcon and decided to move back to Kestrel at the end of the week.
Towards the end of the week Ross followed Lewis’ example from the previous week and experimented with big beds of bait (Hemp, Pellet & Boilie).
This method seems to be working as it resulted in 3 rods going off in quick succession on Ross’ last afternoon.
Ross managed to bag himself 15 Fish for the week, 1 of which was a 31.6lb.
His total catch weight for the week was 347 lb & 8 oz and his catches were: 17.5lb, 3 x 20lb, 20.8lb, 2 x 22lb, 22.2lb, 23.3lb, 24lb, 24.2lb, 26.8lb, 26.10lb, 27.2lb & 31.6lb.
Ross enjoyed his week and was happy that he managed to walk away with having caught 15 Carp including a 30lber.
Johan Bonnefond from Limoges stayed for 2 nights and managed to bag himself 2 fish, they were: 26.5lb & 30.5lb.
Johan was happy to have beaten his PB with the 30lb fish and wants to return regularly for short sessions.

Evesham Festival | 27-29 August 2011
This year’s Evesham Festival extravaganza promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a star-studded line-up of anglers and a host of other attractions!
The three-day August Bank Holiday festival takes place at the historic market town and is one of the longest-running fixtures in the angling calendar, with three very prestigious days of fishing. It starts with the eagerly contested Shakespeare Championship on Saturday, August 27th, followed by the Wychavon Championship on Sunday, 28th and culminates with the 14-team Match Fishing Team Championship on the 29th.
Last year was the first time that bloodworm and joker were allowed for all three days and this turned out to be a resounding success, with countless fish caught throughout the length – exactly what a spectator-driven event like this needs!
This year will follow the same format with star names like Wayne Swinscoe, Darren Cox, Denis White, Hadrian Whittle, Simon Willsmore and Lee Kerry all taking part. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn from the very best and even bag an autograph or two!
Alongside the fishing there are tents galore full of tackle with top bargains to be had, plus a funfair, craft tent and loads of kids’ activities. This really is an event for all the family!

National Fishing Month 2012 | 20th July - 27th August
National Fishing Month will begin on the 20th July 2012 and conclude on the 27th August 2012. This year will again involve several showcase events in each region and a wide range of other local events.
As in previous years, the idea is to encourage every family member to have a go at fishing from whatever cultural or social background they may be from.
Fishery owners, organisers and angling coaches give up their valuable time to support this initiative so please take this opportunity to have a go at this wonderful sport.
What is it all about?
National Fishing Month offers unique opportunities for the protection and promotion of angling. It has the potential to:-
- Increase the number of people getting involved in the sport.
- Inform the general public about the economic, social and environmental benefits of angling.
- Influence decisions about access, environmental policy and wildlife management so that they take the importance of angling into account.
- Improve diversity amongst anglers to counter any perception that it is exclusively a male, white, able-bodied only pursuit.
National Fishing Month is a celebration of the sport of angling. See the news page for updates on some of the events happening around the country. All over the country qualified coaches give their time to welcome newcomers to this marvellous sport. Fees are waived and tackle is often made available free of charge too. Events are organised around the UK to show people who have never fished before how to do it. If you'd like to try fishing then now is your big chance.
What is actually going to happen?
From 20th July to 27th August, there will be hundreds of locally organised angling events offering non-anglers the opportunity to be taught how to fish, FREE OF CHARGE, by a qualified licensed Coach and within a controlled environment.
Are you a potential Event Organiser?
National Fishing Month falls apart without the assistance of Event organisers. We are therefore searching for volunteers to run National Fishing Month Events.
Organisers can be angling clubs, schools, tackle shops, fisheries - in fact anyone with an interest in fishing. Many clubs and societies use National Fishing Month as a way of increasing membership.

Nineoaks Fishery catch report | Ceredigion, Wales | May 2011
May 2011 :: Here is the latest fishing report for Nineoaks Fishery near Aberaeron, Ceredigion in West-Wales.

Plenty of good Carp regularly being caught on various baits including raw sausage, luncheon meat, and floating baits such as bread, dog biscuit and chunks of thick toast! Quiet during the mornings and as the afternoon progresses the fishing just gets better and better each day.
The House Pool continues to produce some excellent Bream and Roach catches which regularly include large Roach and Bream around the 2-3lb mark. Best Carp has been as 12 Ghost Mirror.
The Main Lake has also produced some excellent Roach around the 1- 1.5lb size and as ever produces some excellent Carp catches. A retired Teacher, Chris, from South Wales (pictured) had a 16lb Common. Local angler, David from Llewyncelyn, had an 11lb Linear Carp. Visiting angler, Malcolm Walker of Aintree Liverpool had a pb of 7lb 1oz. Other good baits are sweetcorn, Maggot, cooked mussel, prawns and cockles (not in preservative). For some really excellent Roach fishing Nineoaks takes some beating.
Trout Fishing:
Meanwhile, the Trout fishing continues to be good with plenty of fish around the 2lb mark in all 3 lakes. Wet flies are still predominantly the fly to use with most fish around 3ft down. The Apps bloodworm and Pennel Flies have been deadly capturing a lot of fish, with the orange or white fritz's and Cat's Whisker close seconds.
Please Note:
Check our pictures to see how we encourage our anglers to hold the fish for a better picture by using the first and second fingers of one hand to hold the pectoral fin firmly and supporting the Carp with the other hand.
