Despite the continuing easterly winds, April continues to produce some cracking thirties from both Temple and the Old Lake. Interestingly, most of these fish have been caught during the day, whilst many have put on a huge amount of weight over the winter months and are now at record weights. The first qualifying match in a prestigious new national angling competition, aimed at encouraging people to rediscover their nearby waterways, is set to take place in Loughborough next month and local anglers are being encouraged to sign up. Not one but two thirties grace the banks of Temple at Bury Hill Fisheries in as many days topped by a stunning linear, Nemo, which was caught at a whopping 39lb 8oz. Witnessed by Bury Hill bailiff Clive Elson, John Keatley was the lucky angler to catch Nemo on Monday 23rd. Twenty seven (27) anglers attended the 2015 Larford Silver Fish festival held on the Specimen lake. Fished over a four day period, freezing cold winds and torrential downpours made for difficult fishing for most with short pole or feeder being the only viable options. The Angling Trust has released the details of the 2015 English National Youth Loch Style Final. Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire will host the event on Sunday 24 May, and the Trust is now inviting anglers to apply for their place. 2014’s competition saw 29 anglers take to the water, with Graham Hayward landing 8 fish for 21lb 12 ¼ oz to become English National Youth Champion. An S&TA Regional Meeting has been arranged at the Tank Museum, Bovington, on Thursday September 25th 2014. Doors will open at 6pm, at which time people can view the WWII Hall and Discovery Centre inside the museum. Before the start of the latest Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Stillwater Championship qualifier held at Blythe Waters on Saturday 26th July 2014 the 29 competitors were very apprehensive as to how the venue would fish.
